The OHL Classic at Mayakoba Tournament was held this past week at the “El Camaleón Golf Club” in the Riviera Maya, this PGA TOUR tournament arrived to the Mexican Caribbean in 2007 and it is the first to be played outside of the United States and Canada. In addition, golfers from around the world recognize it as one of the best courses on the PGA tour.
The tournament took place from November 5th to the 11th, and during this week the spectators were able to enjoy a lot of fun activities for the whole family.
In this edition of the OHL tournament 132 professional golfers from all over the world competed, including 7 Mexicans. The El Camaleón Golf Club, the venue for this prestigious event, gave away a prize pot for the winners of $ 7,200,000 dollars.
This is the biggest prize in a golf tournament in Latin America. The winner of last year was the professional golfer Patton Kizzire from the United States.
El Camaleón Golf Course which is a par 72, with its 18 golf holes divided in 3 beautiful landscapes: The Mayan jungle, the mangrove and the beach, with lagoons that cross the field and covers an area of 7024 yards, It was designed by the renowned golfer Greg Norman, so that his colleagues could enjoy a spectacular field with a deep Caribbean Sea.
Matt Kuchar won his first PGA Tour victory since 2014,his eighth overall, thanks to a par putt on 18 to shoot a final-round 69 for a one-stroke victory over second runner up Danny Lee (65) at the Mayakoba Golf Classic on Sunday.
The total prize pot for the Mayakoba Golf Classic was $7.2 million, with a winner’s share of:
$1.296 million to Matt Kuchar two-under 69, 22 under overall
$777,600 to Danny Lee (65 overall)
$489,600 J.J. Spaun (66) and Richy Werenski (67) tied for third, three back.
With the Win, Kuchar moves to fifth in the FedExCup, and earned a spot in several prestigious tournaments, we will see him again in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January, also the Champion received an invitation to the Masters.
